Box Score Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team won its third straight match, its sixth in the last seven and moved to 4-0 at the Peter Jay Sharp Center this season with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 non-conference win over Pratt on Sunday afternoon. Junior
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) keyed the victory with her fifth double-double of the season.
Mount Saint Vincent took advantage of 10 Pratt attack errors in easing to a 25-14 win in the opening set on Sunday. Scozzari put away four kills and hit .429 for the Mount in the opening frame to go along with a block and five digs.
After Pratt went ahead 10-9 in the middle stanza on a Diana Lezama kill, the Dolphins used an 8-1 run to move ahead 17-11 to take the lead for good in the set. Scozzari recorded two kills in the run and the Dolphins got a pair of service aces from
Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii.).
The Dolphins closed out the win on Sunday with a wire-to-wire third set victory in which they total 12 kills as a team. Leineweber and Scozzari combined for 10 of the team's 12 winners in the set and
Nicole Henderson (Bergenfield, N.J.) handed out 11 assists.
Scozzari reached double-figures in kills for the ninth time this season after posting a match-high 13 kills in the contest. She hit and even .500 in 24 attempts and also led the Mount with 16 digs. Scozzari closed out a strong all-around match with four aces and three total blocks.
Leineweber finished the day with 10 kills and six digs on Sunday with
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) and
Ana Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) each finishing with three kills in the contest.
Junior
Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) rounded out the match with three service aces for the Dolphins and lifted eight digs, while Henderson matched her career-high with 26 assists to go along with three aces and three digs.
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent finished with a 31-17 advantage in kills and a 14-3 edge in service aces. The Dolphins also posted a 5-2 advantage in total team blocks on Sunday.
With the victory, Mount Saint Vincent moves to within a match of the .500 mark at 9-10 overall. The Dolphins will look for their 10
th win over the season on Wednesday night when they host John Jay in the team's first
Rally for Ronald match. The contest with the Bloodhounds is set for 7:00 p.m.
