Mount Saint Vincent Tops Maritime, Records Third Straight Win

Throggs Neck, N.Y. – After dropping its first 10 matches of the season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team picked up its third straight victory on Saturday with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-8 win on the road at league rival Maritime. The Dolphins finished the contest with 14 service aces.
 
Mount Saint Vincent carried the play throughout on Saturday and trailed only briefly early in each of the three sets. After falling behind 2-0 in the opening stanza, the Dolphins used a 6-1 run to pull in front for good in the frame. The run was keyed by two kills from Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and a pair of aces from Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.).
 
In the second set, the Mount hit .292 as a team after recording 11 kills and committing just four attack errors. Mount Saint Vincent used a pair of four point runs in the second set and held a lead as large as 15 points. Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.) and Scozzari each totaled three kills in the set, while Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) handed out nine assists and recorded two service aces.
 
The Dolphins closed out their second straight conference victory with a dominating third set. After falling behind 2-1 in the set, the Mount closed by scoring 24 of the final 30 points to secure the victory. Scozzari closed out another strong set with half of the team's 10 kills in the frame.
 
Scozzari rounded out the match with 11 kills and reached double-figures in the category for the second straight outing and for the third time this season. She closed a strong overall outing with seven digs and three service aces.
 
Walker recorded seven kills in nine attacks and hit .778 for the Dolphins and Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) put away six kills and was one of two Dolphins with four service aces.
 
Daluz handed out 22 assists for Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday and lifted four digs. She also contributed a kill, two aces and led the team with two total blocks. Colleen Kallop (Bronx, N.Y.) and Nichole Riehm (Irvington, N.Y.) each recorded a block for Mount Saint Vincent.
 
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent held a 29-6 advantage in kills and a 14-3 edge in service aces. Saturday was the fifth straight match the Dolphins have posted at least 10 aces. Mount Saint Vincent also finished with a 3-0 advantage in total team blocks.
 
With the win, Mount Saint Vincent improves to 3-10 overall on the season and to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look for their fourth straight win on October 1 when they host Rutgers-Newark. Match time at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
