Dolphins Ground Jays In Skyline Conference Opener

Ashleigh Scozzari paced the Dolphins to their first win against NYU-POLY since 2006

Scozzari totals 13 kills, Daluz posts fourth double-double

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Led by 13 kills from Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and the fourth double-double of the season from Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad swept NYU-POLY on Thursday by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-20. Thursday's win for the Mount snaps a nine match losing streak to the Jays, with the Dolphins' last win coming in a four set decision on October 7, 2006.
 
Scozzari rounded out the contest with a match-high in kills and posted double-figures in the category for the second time this season. She hit .161 in the match and added seven digs and a pair of service aces.
 
Daluz continued her solid early season play on Thursday and narrowly missed a triple-double. She wrapped up the contest with a match-high 25 assists to go along with 10 digs and a career-high eight service aces. Daluz also chipped in with a pair of kills for the Dolphins.
 
Freshman Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.) picked up six winners for the Mount in the victory and added a block, while classmate Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) totaled three kills and nine digs.
 
Mount Saint Vincent also received strong showings on Thursday from Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) and Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) who each lifted eight digs and posted four kills.
 
NYU-POLY got three kills each from Noelle McKoy and Alyssa D'Apice. Alyssa Niquette led all players with 15 digs in the contest for the Jays.
 
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in kills 33-11 and hit .132 as a team. The Dolphins also converted 14 service aces against just one for the Jays, while NYU-POLY took a 3-1 advantage in total team blocks.
 
Thursday's win is Mount Saint Vincent's second straight and pushes it to 2-10 overall on the season and to 1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again in league play on Saturday when they travel to Maritime. Match time with the Privateers is set for 11:00 a.m.
