Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team fell to visiting New Rochelle on Thursday in its home opener by scores of 19-25, 23-25, 25-14 and 24-26. Freshman Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) and sophomore Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with 12 kills each.

Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening set on Thursday on the strength of a pair of service aces from Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) and kills from Regan and Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.).

Mount Saint Vincent would get a kill from Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.) to get its lead to 10-4 in the early stages of the set, but New Rochelle used runs of 6-0 and 5-0 to pull in front 20-16.

Following a Moncada kill, the Blue Angels used a Mount Saint Vincent miscue and a winner from Marissa Armstrong to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Blue Angels got out to a 4-0 lead in the second set on Thursday and finished the stanza with 10 kills to take a 2-0 lead on the night. The Dolphins would use a 4-1 run to get to within 5-4 on two kills from Leineweber and service aces from Jennifer Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) and Daluz.

The Dolphins would get the set tied in the middle stages on two occasions, but a 7-1 run by the Blue Angels stretched the lead to six points and gave them the advantage for good in the frame.

Mount Saint Vincent battled back in the third set to bring the match to 2-1 and used a 14-3 scoring run to pull in front 15-8. Leineweber sparked the run with four kills for the Dolphins. Overall in the set Mount Saint Vincent recorded 13 kills and hit .478.

In a back-and-forth fourth stanza, the Dolphins would move in front 15-14 on a pair of New Rochelle errors. The lead would expand to 19-16 on a Regan kill and ace from Alberita Rugova (New York, N.Y.) before the visitors ripped off four straight points to pull in front 20-19.

The Dolphins answered with three straight tallies, including kills from Moncada and Leineweber, but New Rochelle scored the final four points with the help of three Mount Saint Vincent errors to secure the win.

Leineweber and Regan combined for 24 of the team's 38 kills on the night, with Regan posting a double-double with 12 digs. Leineweber finished the night with nine digs and a service aces.

Colleen Kallop and Daluz (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Mount with 15 digs each and Daluz recorded her second double-double of the season after handing out 21 assists. Daluz also finished the night with six of the team's 11 aces, while Moncada lifted 11 digs to go along with four kills.

New Rochelle was led by a match-high 15 kills from Meghan King who also lifted 14 digs and posted an ace. Armstrong put away 12 kills for the visitors, while Indigo Flowers closed a strong night with a match-high 31 assists to go along with 11 digs and five aces. Tiany Perez led all players with 21 digs.

For the night, kills were even at 38 apiece, with the Dolphins holding a slim 11-10 edge in service aces. Total team blocks in the contest went to the Blue Angels by a 5-0 total.

Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-9 on the season. Next up for the Dolphins is a trip to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a non-conference tri-match. The Mount will take on the host Bears along with USMMA-Kings Point.Â
