Mount Saint Vincent Suffers Four Set Loss At Lehman

Bronx, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad dropped its fifth straight match to open the season following a 15-25, 15-25, 25-18 and 18-25 road loss at Lehman on Thursday night. Sophomore Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded a double-double for the Dolphins, including a team-high 13 digs.
 
After dropping the first two sets on Thursday, Mount Saint Vincent rallied in the third to get the match back to within a set at 2-1. The Dolphins took advantage of eight Lehman attack errors in the frame, while Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) each posted two kills. Colleen Kallop (Bronx, N.Y.) finished off a pair of service aces.
 
Trying to knot the match at two sets apiece in the fourth set, the Mount jumped out to a 4-3 lead after back-to-back winners from Scozzari. Lehman went on to grab a 12-9 lead, before the Dolphins used a 3-0 spurt keyed by kills from Scozzari and Jennier Roman (Queens Village, N.Y.) even the score at 12-12.
 
Lehman would regain the lead for good after four straight Mount Saint Vincent miscues and did not allow the Dolphins closer then four points the remainder of the contest. The Lightning finished off the match on a 5-2 run and tallied 10 points off of Mount Saint Vincent errors in the stanza.
 
Mount Saint Vincent was paced on the night by Scozzari who finished with nine kills and pair of total blocks. She also picked up a pair of service aces in the match and lifted five digs. Leineweber totaled eight kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks, while Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) picked up five winners and a two blocks.
 
Daluz rounded out a solid all-around night leading the team in assists with 15 and digs with 13. She also recorded two kills and a block assist. Kallop closed the match with five digs, two aces and five assists.
 
The Lightning was led by 12 kills and seven digs from Jo-Marie Aquino and 10 winners and a .500 hitting percentage from Cari English. Jessica Gonzalez handed out a match-high 28 assists and added nine digs.
 
Lehman rounded out the night with the edge in kills 36-30 and made five fewer attack errors then the Dolphins. Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in total team blocks on the night 2-0.
 
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-5 to start the young season. The Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday when they play three matches at the Franklin and Marshall Scramble. The first match of the day starts at 10:00 a.m.
