Cornacchio Nets Hat Trick In Dolphins’ Road Win At Sarah Lawrence

Cornacchio, Barnham combine for five goals

Yonkers, N.Y. – Paced by three goals from sophomore Vanessa Cornacchio (Oceanside, N.Y.) and two from classmate Charlotte Barnham (London, England), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team cruised to a 7-0 road win at Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night. The Mount picked up its second straight triumph and has yet to allow a goal in its three wins this season.
 
Cornacchio did all of her scoring in the first 22 minutes of the contest on Wednesday, scoring three straight for the Dolphins. She opened the scoring at the 11:00 mark off a pass from Courtney LaTorre (Denville, N.J.) and quickly netted her third of the season at 12:40 when she buried a cross from senior Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.).
 
Mount Saint Vincent would open a 3-0 lead at 21:21 of the match when Cornacchio finished off the natural hat trick when she maneuvered around the goalkeeper to convert her fourth marker of the young season.
 
Barnham scored her third goal of the season just under four minutes later when she knocked home a feed from Cornacchio and added an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute to give the Dolphins a 5-0 advantage. Her scoring output ties her with Cornacchio for the team lead in goals with four.
 
Sophomore Ashley Mars (Hicksville, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the first half for the Dolphins with her second of the season and second in as many games in the 44th minute. She chipped a shot over the keeper and into the left corner for a commanding 6-0 lead heading into halftime.
 
Mount Saint Vincent dominated the play in the first half and held a 14-0 advantage in shots and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks after the first 45 minutes of play.
 
Senior captain Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) converted the lone goal of the second half for the Dolphins when she scored to the upper right corner at the 57:30 mark of the match. The tally marked Flores first career goal.
 
Cornacchio rounded out the night with seven points on the strength of her hat trick and an assist. Barnham finished with a pair of tallies and has scored at least one goal in each of the Mount's three victories this season.
 
Freshman Laura Schools (East Northport, N.Y.) picked up her second straight win on Wednesday after working 58:11 without having to make a save. Sophia Cunningham (Flushing, N.Y.) combined on the shutout for the second straight game and played 31:49 for the Dolphins.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent outshot Sarah Lawrence 16-0 overall and 11-0 in shots on goal. The Dolphins took all five corner kicks on the night in the win.
 
Wednesday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 3-1 overall on the season and gives the team its best start since opening 4-0 in 2006. The Dolphins will look for three straight wins on Saturday when they host cross-town rival Lehman. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is set for 7:30 p.m.
