Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team will open the 2013 season on Tuesday night when it plays host to local foe York at Tibbetts Brook Park. The Dolphins will kick-off the season against the Cardinals starting at 8:30 p.m.
Head Coach
Giuseppe Pennetti took over a program in 2012 that had won nine games in the previous four seasons and guided it to an 8-8 mark overall. Pennetti will look to mentor the Dolphins to their first winning season and most wins since a 10-7 campaign in 2005.
Mount Saint Vincent returns Second Team All-Skyline Conference performer
Allison Bhadai (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in 2013. As a freshman Bhadai led the Mount in goals with 11 and points with 24 in 2012. Bhadai's 2012 season was the most productive for a Mount Saint Vincent player since Cynthia Osorio scored 12 times and posted 26 points in 2007. Osorio was the last player before Bhadai to be named All-Conference by the league's coaches.
The Dolphins also return captains
Shannon Doyle (Central Islip, N.Y.),
Nicole Flores (Bethpage, N.Y.) and
Louisa Jamgochian (Olney, Md.) in 2013. Jamgochian was tied for second on the team in assists last season with three and posted five points overall. Doyle matched Jamgochian in assists as a sophomore, while Flores missed the campaign due to injury.
The Mount will also look for production from returning players
Alexis Andino (Port Reading, N.J.),
Samantha Fioravanti (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.),
Sophia Cunningham (Flushing, N.Y.),
Gabriella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.),
Victoria Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.),
Deysi Mendez (Novato, Calif.) and
Ashley Mars (Hicksville, N.Y.).
Pennetti and the Dolphins will look for immediate impact from a talented group of newcomers to the program in 2013. The incoming class consists of: goalkeepers
Laura Schools (East Northport, N.Y.) and
Kelly Hilly; defenders
Erica Lencsak (Hazlet, N.J.),
Casey Coyle (Freehold, N.J.) and
Alexis Contreras (Valley Stream, N.Y.); midfielders
Charlotte Barnham (London, England),
Taylor McGinn (East Rockaway, N.Y.), Ardiana Mehmataj,
Courtney LaTorre (Denville, N.J.) and
Bianca Russo (Brooklyn, N.Y.); as well as forwards
Kristen Schnibbe (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Mandy D'Amico (Freehold, N.J.) and
Vanessa Cornacchio (Oceanside, N.Y.).
Mount Saint Vincent rounded out the 2013 season with an 8-8 overall record and a 2-6 mark against Skyline Conference opponents. The overall win total marked a five victory increase over the 2011 season.
After tussling with the Cardinals on Tuesday, the Dolphins will travel to Keystone on Friday afternoon before returning home on September 9 to host Saint Elizabeth.
