Dolphins Eliminated From Skyline Tournament In Straight Sets

Erika Moncada equaled the match-high with 13 digs on Wednesday

Daluz records 16 assists, Leineweber totals six kills

Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team saw its season come to a close on Wednesday night with a 10-25, 22-25, 19-25 loss to fifth seeded Mount Saint Mary in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Tournament. Maria Leineweber (Waimanalo, Hawaii) led the Dolphins with six kills, while Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) lifted 13 digs.
 
Mount Saint Vincent fell behind by a set after not leading or tying the Knights in the opening stanza on Wednesday. After falling behind 14-4 in the second frame, Mount Saint Vincent rallied with a 15-4 run to take a 19-18 lead. Leineweber led the charge with a pair of kill and a service aces.
 
Mount Saint Mary would respond to close the set on a 7-3 spurt to take a commanding two set lead in the match. The Dolphins would put the Knights behind again early in the third frame, 5-3, but the visitors again rallied with  14-3 run to move in front 17-8. The lead would grow to 10 points late in the third set, before Mount Saint Vincent strung together an 8-1 stretch to get back to within 22-18. Mount Saint Mary closed with three kills to secure the win and advance to the semifinal round.
 
Leineweber led the Mount Saint Vincent offensive attack with six winners and added 12 digs and a pair of service aces. Leineweber closes her rookie campaign as the team leader in kills with 210 on the season.
 
Sophomore Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added five winners for the Dolphins, with Brianna Walker (Pomona, N.Y.) putting away four kills. Scozzari added six digs and three total blocks for Mount Saint Vincent in the match.
 
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) handed out a team-high 16 assists against the Knights and contributed two kills and six digs. Moncada led the Dolphins with 13 digs to go along with a kill and a service ace.
 
The visiting Knights received a match-high 12 kills and a .476 hitting percentage from Kayla Kurka and six winners and a pair of blocks from Natalie Candarelli. Claire Scully led all players with 31 assists to go along with 10 digs and Brianna Johnston finished with a match-high six service aces and 10 digs. Jen Gries equaled the match-high in digs for the Knights with 13.
 
Overall on the night, Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in kills 35-19. The Knights posted a convincing edge in service aces at 14-4, while the Dolphins took a 4-3 advantage in total team blocks on the night.
 
Wednesday's loss closes Mount Saint Vincent's season at 8-18 overall.
