New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team picked up a 1-0 win on the road at CCNY on Wednesday afternoon and with it surpassed its win total from the 2012 season. Sophomore
Vanessa Cornacchio (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored her 11
th goal of the season to send the Mount to the win.
The only goal of the contest came in the 16
th minute when Cornacchio buried a pass off the foot of classmate
Allison Bhadai (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) at 15:43. Bhadai sent a pass from the right win to the far corner where Cornacchio was able to beat the keeper for the game winning goal.
Wednesday's goal is Cornacchio's team leading 11
th of the season and she has scored at least one goal in four of the team's last five contests. She paces the Dolphins in 2013 in goals, points with 24 and game winning goals with five. Bhadai's assists gives her a point in three of the four games she has appeared in this season.
Kelly Hilly (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Laura Schools (East Northport, N.Y.) combined on the team's eighth shutout of the season against the Beavers. Hilly made the Mount's only stop of the game, while Schools picked up her fourth win for the Dolphins in goal.
The Dolphins closed out the game with a 28-6 edge in shots overall and a 17-1 advantage in shots on goal. Cornacchio and
Charlotte Barnham (London, England) led the way with eight shots apiece. Mount Saint Vincent also finished the day with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
With the win Mount Saint Vincent moves to 9-6 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to league play on Saturday night when they play host to Purchase. Kick-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is slated for 8:00 p.m.
