Dolphins feature four different goal scorers, Melchor posts eighth shutout

Purchase, N.Y. – Led by a balanced scoring attack and the eighth shutout of the season from David Melchor (Los Angeles, Calif.), the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team snapped a two game slide with a 4-0 non-conference win over visiting Cobleskill on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Mount Saint Vincent opened the scoring when freshman Victor Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) potted his 10th goal of the season and picked up his team leading fifth game winning goal at the 6:21 mark of the match. He collected a free ball and worked his way into the box to notch the deciding tally.
 
The Dolphins carried the play in the opening 45 minutes on Wednesday and went into the intermission with a one goal lead and a 12-1 edge in shots. The Mount also took four of the five corner kicks awarded in the opening stanza.
 
The Dolphins would cling to the one goal advantage until they scored three goals in the final 17 minutes of play to open the game up to the final four goal decision. Pablo Tellez (El Monte, Calif.) scored his fifth of the season and snapped a 10 game goalless drought off a pass from Kevin Jardines (South Gate, Calif.) at 72:34 to open the second half scoring.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would extend its lead to three goals when Matthew Samaan (Manalapan, N.J.) scored just over three minutes later before Jardines tallied in the 79th minute to close out the scoring. Samaan finished off a pass from John Everson (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) and Jardines matched Ramirez with his 10th marker of the season.
 
Jardines rounded out the game with three points and is tops on the team in the category with 24. Ramirez sits second in scoring with 22 points and Samaan has 18 after potting his career-best seventh goal of the season.
 
Melchor closed out his eighth shutout of the season with five saves, including four in the second half. He lowered his goals against average to 0.81. Tucker Lewis finished the day with six stops for the visiting Fighting Tigers.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the game with a commanding 24-10 advantage in shots on the day and took four of the seven corner kicks in the contest. Samaan led the Mount with eight shots, while Ramirez and Tellez closed the game with five attempts each.
 
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 11-4 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Sunday evening when they welcome league rival St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
