Mount Saint Vincent Falls At Purchase, Remains Winless In League Play

Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team dropped its second straight game and sixth in its last seven outings on Thursday with a 57-49 loss on the road at Purchase. Sophomore Shanice Robinson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the Dolphins in scoring with a career-high 11 points.
 
After Linker St. Hilaire got the scoring started with a bucket for Purchase after a nearly three minute drought to open the game, the Dolphins took their only lead of the night with back-to-back conversions from Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.).
 
Trailing 4-2, Purchase went on an 8-0 run to take a six point lead with just under 12 minutes left in the opening period. Jess Lindsay and St. Hilaire accounted for all eight of the Panthers' points over that stretch.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would rally to cut the deficit to one point on a Sinaly jumper with 6:26 left in the half, but Purchase closed the stanza on a 13-6 run to carry a 24-16 lead into halftime.
 
The Dolphins struggled from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just under 26-percent from the floor overall and 0-for-6 from behind the arc. The Panthers converted at a 31-percent clip in the first period, but featured three players with at least six points. Lindsay led Purchase with seven points at the break.
 
Talia Beaulieu quickly pushed the Purchase lead to 10 points with a bucket at the 19:33 mark of the second half to help the Panthers keep a two possession advantage the rest of the evening.
 
The Dolphins would get back to within five points on eight occasions in the second half, but a quick 6-0 spurt from Purchase capped by an Elizabeth Osowiecki bucket gave the Panthers their largest lead of the night, at 52-41, with 3:04 left to play.
 
Mount Saint Vincent shot 50-percent in the second half to finish the game at 38.2-percent overall. The Dolphins shot below 40-percent from the floor for the 16th time this season and went without a three-point field goal for the fourth time after finishing the night 0-for-7.
 
Robinson finished the game 3-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line on her way to the career-high point total. She also grabbed six rebounds and blocked a shot for the Mount.
 
Tanisha Montague (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out the night with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Dolphins and Nicole Oliver (Carmel, N.Y.) added 10 points and matched her career-high with 12 rebounds.
 
Fraser and Sinaly each wrapped up with eight points, with Sinaly hauling in eight rebounds. Sinaly also led the team with a pair of steals.
 
Lindsay and Jessica Biggs led a balanced Purchase scoring attack with 12 points each. Beaulieu added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while St. Hilaire finished with 10 points. St. Hilaire also swiped five steals and matched the game-high with three assists.
 
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 6-14 overall on the season and to 0-10 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look for their first league win on Saturday when they play host to Farmingdale St. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
