Mount Saint Vincent Falters At League Rival Farmingdale State

Woods matches career-high with 13 points

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was downed on the road Saturday afternoon by a score of 85-59 at Farmingdale State. Sophomore Anthony Woods (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was the lone Dolphin in double-figures, matching his career-high with 13 points.
 
The Dolphins got on the board early on Saturday and took their only lead of the game on an Antonio Johnson (Fort Johnson, N.Y.) conversion in the first half minute of play. From there, the Rams used a 22-8 run to take the lead for good. Ryan Davis knocked down four threes over the run for Farmingdale St.
 
Woods would convert a three-pointer with 4:45 left in the opening period to get the Mount to within six points, but Farmingdale St. would close the opening stanza with 12 of the final 17 points to take a 41-28 lead into halftime.
 
The Rams shot just shy of 47-percent from the floor overall in the opening 20 minutes and went 5-for-8 from behind the arc to build their advantage. Davis and Christian Nunez led the way with 12 points each.
 
A 16-2 run over the opening 7:50 of the second half moved the Farmingdale St. lead out to 57-30 and the Rams took their largest lead of the day following a Donald Lawes dunk pushed them in front 78-41 with 3:45 showing on the clock.
 
Mount Saint Vincent shot 9-for-35 in the second half and 0-for-10 from behind the arc. Overall, the Dolphins shot just over 30-percent from the field and 19-percent from distance. Farmingdale St. shot an even 50-percent on the day and a red-hot 58.3-percent from behind the arc.
 
Nunez came off the bench to lead all players and three Rams in double-figures with 20 points after shooting 7-for-12 from the field. He knocked in a pair of triples, handed out three assists and swiped three steals.
 
Leo Esonwune posted a double-double for Farmingdale St. with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, with Davis finishing with 12 tallies. Wilson Molina handed out six assists and Terrence Henderson finished with five steals.
 
Woods closed the day shooting 5-for-10 overall and 2-for-6 from beyond the arc. Sean Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points for the Mount and Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed eight points and five rebounds.
 
Senior Michael Knott (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) secured a team-high seven rebounds for the Dolphins, with Caputo and Seamus Douglas (Old Lyme, Conn.) pacing the team with three steals.
 
Farmingdale St. finished the contest with a 50-31 edge on the boards, including an 18-10 advantage on the offensive glass. The Rams also held a 38-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 12-4 edge in second chance points.
 
Saturday's loss is the seventh in the last eight outings for Mount Saint Vincent and drops it to 4-11 overall on the season and to 2-6 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Mount is a date with Maritime on Tuesday night. Tip-off at the Privateers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
