Wayne, N.J. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team dropped two non-conference matches on Saturday at William Paterson. The Dolphins dropped a 21-25, 25-16, 25-21, 20-25 and 8-15 heartbreaker against William Paterson before getting swept by scores of 19-25, 15-25 and 17-25 against Cedar Crest. A trio of Dolphins posted double-figures in kills in the opener, with freshman
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) posting 16 winners.
After dropping the opening set against the Pioneers, the Mount hit a blistering .522 in the second set to pull even in the match at one set apiece. Mount Saint Vincent committed just one attack error in the frame and used a 7-0 run, keyed by two Scozzari kills, in the early stages of the set to jump in front 10-6.
The Dolphins got out to a 2-1 lead after recording 14 kills in the third set. The Dolphins used another seven point run to open a 7-1 lead helped by a pair of
Morganne Booker (East Providence, R.I.) winners. After the Pioneers knotted the score at 17-17, the Mount tallied eight of the last 12 points of the stanza, including a pair of
Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) kills, to push the Mount in front 24-21.
William Paterson would rebound to take the fourth set and then took advantage of five Mount Saint Vincent attack errors in the fifth to sneak away with the victory. The Pioneers used a 9-1 run in the fourth to open a 16-9 lead and then an 8-1 spurt to take a 14-4 lead in the fifth. The Dolphins got back to 14-8 in the deciding frame but an Issel Garcia kill secured the victory.
Scozzari matched her career-high in the contest with 16 kills and also added a pair of digs and four total blocks.
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) also had a career day for the Dolphins with 45 assists and 20 digs. She also picked up three total blocks for the Mount.
Booker finished the contest with 14 kills and a .312 hitting percentage to go along with a career-high seven total blocks.
Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also notched a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Regan closed out a strong day with nine kills and seven digs.
Amanda Morales lifted 24 digs for the Pioneers and also added a match-high six aces. Taylor Woegens led the team with nine kills and Danielle Koukos and Liz Dykhouse each handed out 13 assists.
In the second match of the day, Cedar Crest posted 30 kills to just 16 for Mount Saint Vincent with Rebecca Grady leading the way with seven winners. Debra Lobien handed out a match-high 26 assists, while Jessica Lobien lifted 12 digs.
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced the Mount with four kills in the match and also added four digs. Daluz handed out seven assists and lifted eight digs for the Dolphins with
Carly Jenkinson (Pacifica, Calif.) chipping in with 15 digs.
The Dolphins hit .053 against Cedar Crest, with Cedar Crest also holding a slim 44-43 edge in digs. Total team blocks also went the way of Falcons, 3-1.
Following Saturday's results, Mount Saint Vincent falls to 2-3 overall on the year. The Dolphins will look to get back to .500 on Tuesday when they open Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva. Match time with the Maccabees is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
