Mount Saint Vincent Downed At Vassar In Straight Sets

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad was handed it first loss of the season on Wednesday night after a 7-25, 15-25, 16-25 loss at Vassar. Morganne Booker (East Providence, R.I.) finished the match with five kills, while sophomore Carly Jenkinson (Pacifica, Calif.) paced the Dolphins with 12 digs.
 
After getting the score tied at 2-2 early in the opening stanza, the Mount saw Vassar rip off seven of the next eight points to pull in front 9-3. The Dolphins responded with two straight points on Vassar attack errors before the Brewers went on a 13-0 run to take a commanding 22-5 lead.
 
The Dolphins did not record a kill in the first set on Wednesday and hit -.450 overall in the frame, while Vassar put away nine winners and took advantage of nine Mount Saint Vincent attack errors.
 
Vassar got off to another quick start in the middle set and jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Booker got the Dolphins on the board with her first kill of the match. After falling behind 12-5, the Dolphins mounted a 10-3 run to pull to within two points in the middle stages of the set. Booker led the charge with two more kills for the Mount.
 
In the final set, the Brewers again posted the first three points and never let the Mount closer then two points after breaking a 5-5 tie on a Mount Saint Vincent miscue. Although the Dolphins posted six of their 11 kills in the final set, they committed 11 errors.
 
Overall in the match, the Dolphins hit -.221 as a team, posting 11 kills and 28 attack errors. Booker paced the team with her five winners, while Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added three and Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added a pair.
 
Jenkinson continued her solid early season form on Wednesday with 12 digs, while Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) added eight and an assist. Booker also recorded the Mount's lone block in the contest.
 
Vassar wrapped up the night with eight different players recording a kill, with Jessie Ditmore leading the way with six. Hillary Koeings paced the Brewers with 15 assists in the match and Chloe Hallum lifted a match-high 16 digs.
 
Overall on the night, Vassar finished with 27 kills and hit .118 as a team and also held a 5-1 edge in total team blocks. Cebe Loomis and Ditmore led the way with two blocks each in the win.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Thursday when they travel to USMMA-Kings Point. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
