Valhalla, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team received goals from
Ashley Mars (Hicksville, N.Y.) and
Allison Bhadai (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and a shutout in goal from senior
Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) in a 2-0 win over visiting John Jay. The win is the Mount's fourth straight and matches the longest winning streak for the program since the 2007 campaign.
Mount Saint Vincent came out of the gates on the attack on Wednesday and finally broke through when Mars connected on her first career goal in the 21
st minute. She took a crossing pass from
Shannon Doyle (Central Islip, N.Y.) and deposited it in the back of the net for the eventual game winner at the 20:08 mark of the contest.
The Dolphins would stay on the attack for the remainder of the half and eventually doubled their advantage on Bhadai's team leading sixth goal of the season in the 36
th minute.
Sarah Colletti (Mansfield, Mass.) started the sequence with a crossing pass and Bhadai finished it off for an insurance tally at 35:20.
Although scoring just the two goals, the Mount carried the play from the outset. The Dolphins finished the day with a 20-3 advantage in overall shots and a 12-3 edge in shots on goal.
O'Shea picked up her fourth win of the season for the Dolphins after making three stops. Since starting at Ramapo on September 8, O'Shea has ripped off four straight wins and has posted a 1.95 goals against average for the Mount.
The Dolphins closed the 2011 season with a 3-10-1 overall record and with a total of 44 points. Through six games in 2012, the Mount has picked up four victories and already shows a total of 41 points with 10 different players with at least one.
With Wednesday's victory, Mount Saint Vincent sits at 4-2 overall on the season heading into Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will travel to Purchase for the Skyline opener on Saturday, with kick-off set for 12:00 p.m.
