Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) recorded double-figures in kills for the second straight match with 13 and classmate
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded her second career double-double as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team picked up its third straight win with a 25-17, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-20 win at Mitchell.
The Dolphins took the first set on Saturday after totaling just three kills and hitting -.059 as a team. Mount Saint Vincent took advantage of 13 Mitchell attack errors in the set to get off to the early advantage.
In the second frame on Saturday it was Mitchell's turn to take advantage of 11 Mount Saint Vincent miscues as the Mariners knotted the match at 1-1. Mitchell used four straight points to break a 10-10 tie and then scored the final four points of the set to get on the board.
After struggling in the first two sets, Mount Saint Vincent rebounded to record 10 kills and commit just four errors in the third. After jumping out to an 8-2 lead in the stanza, the Dolphins saw Mitchell go on a 12-0 run to open a 14-8 lead.
Mount Saint Vincent would get two kills from Scozzari in a 4-2 run and then closed the set with seven straight points to take a 2-1 advantage. Freshman
Allison Regan (Carmel, N.Y.) sparked the run with four service aces for the Dolphins.
Leading the match 2-1, Mount Saint Vincent committed just two errors in the fourth frame and used a 10-0 run to rally from a 16-13 deficit to seal the victory. Scozzari picked up five winners for the Dolphins over the run and recorded seven in the set to lead the Mount to its third straight victory.
For the match, Scozzari lead all players in kills and hit .265. She also lifted three digs and recorded a total block for the Dolphins.
Morganne Booker (East Providence, R.I.) also had a strong showing on Saturday with nine kills, five digs, a pair of aces and two total blocks.
Daluz finished the afternoon with a match-high 27 assists and was one of four Dolphins with in double-figures in digs with 10. She also picked up a kill, a block and two aces for the Dolphins.
Regan closed out the day with a career-high seven service aces for Mount Saint Vincent to go along with six kills, nine digs and two total blocks. Madelein Garaicoa (Glendale, N.Y.) and
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with 17 digs and
Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lifted 14 digs and contributed two kills.
Mitchell was led by six kills from Gloria Charles and a match-high 23 digs from Arianna Thomas. Nicole Terni handed out 20 assists for the Mariners and totaled 15 digs.
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent finished the match with 34 kills and continued its strong play in the service game with 14 aces. The Dolphins also lifted 77 digs as a team, while total team blocks were even in the match a four apiece.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 5-3 overall on the year. The Dolphins will look to extend their season long winning streak on September 22 when they travel to Brooklyn to take on league rivals NYU-POLY and Mount Saint Mary. The match with the Jays is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and the contest with the Knights is set for 1:00 p.m.
