Farmingdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team had its four game winning streak stopped on Saturday, falling at Farmingdale St. by a score of 95-61. Junior
Sean Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with 17 points.
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the game and the Rams used a 10-2 run to break a 2-2 tie and take a 12-4 lead five minutes into the contest. The Rams would push the lead to 11 points on a Josh Smith lay-in with 12:13 to play before halftime.
Farmingdale St. would keep its lead in double figures the remainder of the game and after a Smith triple with 49 ticks left before halftime; the Rams carried a 40-24 advantage into the locker room.
Smith finished the first half with 14 of his 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting overall. As a team Farmingdale St. shot 48.4-percent and knocked down four of its 10 chances from behind the arc.
The Dolphins came out of halftime and scored 12 of the first 19 points of the stanza, but could not get their deficit any smaller 12 points the rest of the way. Farmingdale St. would use an 18-4 spurt over the final five minutes to ease to the victory.
Mount Saint Vincent struggled from the floor on Saturday, shooting just 30-percent from the field overall. The Dolphins did knock down seven three-pointers, with Caputo going 5-for-6 on the day.
Caputo finished the afternoon one point off the game-high and also totaled one rebound in the contest.
Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, N.Y.) chipped in 11 points to go along with three assists.
Senior
Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) led the Dolphins with seven rebounds, while
Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed three assists and five rebounds to his nine points.
Smith and A.J. Matthews led Farmingdale St. on Saturday, with each netting 18 points. The duo combined to go 15-for-22 from the floor, with Smith grabbing 14 rebounds and blocking four shots. Smith added three assists to the winning effort.
Dyshaun Flournoy added 15 points for the Rams with Ryan Davis totaling nine points and handing out a game-high seven assists.
The Dolphins were outscored in the paint on Saturday 50-18 and the Rams turned 20 Mount Saint Vincent turnovers into 30 points. Farmingdale St. also had the better of second chance points 14-7.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 8-12 overall on the season and to 6-7 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Tuesday when they travel to Mount Saint Mary. Tip-off with the knights is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
