New Rochelle, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team picked up a tough 26-24, 26-24, 25-21 road win at New Rochelle on Tuesday night. Junior
Morganne Booker (East Providence, R.I.) paced the Dolphins with a team-high 10 kills.
Tuesday's match featured 28 ties and 14 lead changes, including 17 ties and eight lead changes in a back-and-forth opening stanza. Trailing 24-21 late in the first set, the Dolphins rallied behind kills from
Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Ashleigh Scozzari (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to score the final five points to take the one set advantage.
The Dolphins found themselves down by six points early in the second stanza after the Blue Angels used a 7-0 run to pull in front 8-2. The Dolphins went on to respond with seven of the next eight points, led by a pair of Scozzari kills, to knot the score at 9-9.
After New Rochelle got back-to-back kills from Dalila Rosado and Cydney House to tie the score at 24-24, Mount Saint Vincent took advantage of a Blue Angel miscue and an
Erika Moncada (Yonkers, N.Y.) winner to sneak its way to a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set saw the two teams trade the lead four times in the early going, before the Mount jumped in front 11-6 after a quick 7-0 spurt. The run was sparked by a pair of Booker winners and two service aces from
Carly Jenkinson (Pacifica, Calif.).
New Rochelle would get its deficit down to two points three times in the set, but a 7-3 run from the Mount late in the set got its lead to 24-18. The Blue Angels would score three of the final four points of the match, but an attack error sent the Mount to the sweep.
Booker was the only Mount Saint Vincent player to reach double-figures in kills on the night with her 10, as she hit .171 overall. She also lifted four digs and recorded four total blocks for the Dolphins.
DeMasi rounded out a strong night with six kills and a .385 attack percentage to go along with seven digs and three total blocks. Scozzari finished the match with five kills for the Dolphins.
Freshman
Zana Daluz (Pawtucket, R.I.) handed out 18 assists on the night and narrowly missed her 10
th double-double of the season with nine digs. Moncada put away two kills and led the Dolphins with 13 digs, while Jenkinson picked up 10 digs and totaled three aces.
New Rochelle got a match-high 11 kills from Meghan King, while House added eight kills and a match-high 18 digs. Elizabeth Johnston led all players with 24 assists and Rosado added seven winners and three total blocks.
Overall in the match, New Rochelle finished with 32 kills to 26 for Mount Saint Vincent. The Dolphins held the edge in service aces 7-5 and total team blocks 8-5. Scozzari led all players on the night with five blocks.
Tuesday's win brings Mount Saint Vincent to within a match of the .500 mark at 11-12 overall. The Dolphins will return to action on Friday when they take on Stevens and Rochester at the New York State Challenge held at New York University. The first match of the day is set for 1:00 p.m.
