New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team won its second straight match on Thursday evening with a 3-0 sweep at John Jay. The Dolphins won the non-conference contest by set scores of 25-17, 25-6 and 25-14. Senior Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the Mount with seven kills, while classmate Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) posted 13 digs.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would trail only briefly in the match when the Bloodhounds ripped off six straight points early on in the first set to take a 6-2 lead. The Dolphins would battle back to tie the score at 8-8 after a John Jay attack error and then took control of the set with nine straight points to take an 18-12 lead.
 
Williams recorded the Mount's only kill over the run as John Jay went on to commit eight straight attack errors. The Bloodhounds would get back to within three points at 20-17, but the Dolphins closed the set with five straight tallies, including a pair of kills from Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
 
The Dolphins took control of the match after hitting a blistering .643 as a team in the second set. Mount Saint Vincent recorded 10 kills in the frame and committed just a single attack error in 14 attempts. John Jay would not score consecutive points in the stanza as the Dolphins ran out to a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The Mount would run out to a big lead again in set number three after a kill from Metzner and a service ace from Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) helped the Dolphins to an early 5-2 lead. A six point run late in the set helped Mount Saint Vincent open a 10 point lead before easing to the non-league triumph.
 
Williams finished as the team leader in kills on Thursday and hit .417 overall. She made just two errors in the match in 12 total attacks. She also lifted a dig for the Dolphins in the victory.
 
Metzner finished the night with five winners for the Dolphins and also posted match-highs in service aces with five and defensive digs with 13. Reynes was the only other Dolphins with better then 10 digs in the contest with 12. She also chipped in with a kill and a pair of aces.
 
Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) led all players on Thursday with 19 assists and also contributed a pair of kills to the winning effort. Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) posted four winners for the Dolphins and recorded the Mount's only block of the match.
 
John Jay was led by eight kills from Martina Hot and five winners from Kathleen Estevez. Renauta Sailsman led the Bloodhounds with 12 digs, while Katherine Bonilla handed out a team-high 11 assists.
 
Mount Saint Vincent recorded 27 kills in the match and hit .290 as a team. The Dolphins also lifted 39 digs against John Jay, while each team recorded a single total team block.
 
Thursday's victory sends Mount Saint Vincent to 6-11 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to the court again when they play three matches at the Ramapo Classic on Saturday. The Mount will take on Plattsburgh (11 AM), Ramapo (1:30 PM) and Centenary (3 PM).
