Mount Saint Vincent Tripped Up By Sage

Calandrillo makes nine saves in loss

Yonkers, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team dropped a home Skyline Conference match to Sage on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 8-0. Andres Romero (Port Chester, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with two shots in the game, while Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) made nine saves.
 
Sage got on the board with the eventual game winner in the 15th minute when Nick Mauro scored his first of three goals on the day. He took a pass off a restart and skipped the ball inside the far post for an early 1-0.
 
The Gators would go on to score two more times in the opening 45 minutes and then exploded for five tallies in the second half to cruise to the victory. Mauro was one of three multi-goal scorers on the day for Sage, with Evan Southworth and Jose Miranda each scoring a pair for the visitors.
 
Overall Sage had six players with at least one point on the day. Mauro led the way with six points overall, while Chris Peralta closed out a four point effort on Wednesday with four helpers
 
Romero got off half of Mount Saint Vincent's shots in the contest, with Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) and Hubert Bararwandika (Bronx, N.Y.) each recording one. Romero totaled the only two shots on target in the game.
 
Calandrillo finished the day with nine saves, including six in the second half for the Dolphins. The Gators used two keepers on the day, with Trevor Paddy earning the victory and making two stops.
 
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 26-4 overall, including 15-1 in the second half. The Gators also took all nine corner kicks in the match and fouls were called 10 apiece.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-3 overall on the season and to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to get back on track Saturday when they travel to Purchase. Kick-off with the Panthers is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
