Doyle nets second goal of the season for the Dolphins

, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Shannon Doyle (Central Islip, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the season and senior goalie Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) made a season-high 14 saves, but the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team was defeated on the road Wednesday afternoon at Staten Island by a score of 7-1.
 
Mount Saint Vincent trailed at the half 2-0 after Staten Island received two late goals in the period. Natalie Tombasco scored at the 31:15 mark on a shot from the right side before Demi-Jean Martorano closed out the scoring in the period in the final minute. Martorano scored with just seven seconds left before halftime off of one of eight corner kicks in the contest.
 
Staten Island got the first two goals of the second half in the opening 10 minutes of the period, before Doyle netted her team leading second goal of the season. She broke up the middle on a 3-on-1 and beat Staten Island keeper Valerie Incontrera for the Mount's lone goal of the tilt.
 
Despite the final score, McNish played a strong game in the cage for the Dolphins with her 14 stops. McNish has now made at least 10 saves in the past three games for Mount Saint Vincent. Incontrera made a pair of saves for Staten Island in the second half.
 
Staten Island had five different goal scorers on the afternoon with Montorano leading the way with two goals. Lauren Neglia and Melissa Gelardi each posted a pair of assists in the contest.
 
Overall on the day, Staten Island held the advantage in shots 30-6, including 22-3 in shots on goal. Corners kicks also went in favor of the home team at 8-1 and fouls were whistled 6-4 against Staten Island.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-5 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look to snap a three match losing streak on September 27 when they travel to York for a non-conference match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
