Bethlehem, N.Y. – In its Skyline Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer squad was shutout by Sage by a score of 3-0. Senior goalkeeper
Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) played a strong game for the Dolphins with 12 saves.
The game was tightly contested over the first 45 minutes, with Sage holding the edge in shots at the half 5-1. The Gators got the eventual game winning goal in the 13th minute when Rebecca Marszalek connected with her first of two goals on the afternoon. The unassisted tally came at the 12:52 mark of the match.
The Dolphins would trail by the same 1-0 score until late in the tilt when Sage scored a pair of goals over a three minute stretch with nearly 25 minutes left in regulation time. Chelsea Martin picked up her first goal of the season on an assist from Marszalek in the 64th minute, before Marszalek beat McNish with her second of the game and fourth of the season in the 67th minute.
Marszalek finished the game with five points after scoring twice and picking up an assist, while Martin posted three points after adding an assist to her marker.
McNish recorded at least 10 saves in a game for the second time this season on Saturday with her 12. She has now made 35 stops on the season and owns a save percentage of .673. Brittany McDonald earned the shutout victory for the Gators after making a pair of saves.
Mount Saint Vincent, who was shutout for the third time this season, was outshot in the game 17-2, including 12-1 in the second half.
Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and
Danielle Heumegni (Bronx, N.Y.) each recorded a shot for the Dolphins on Saturday.
Sage also held the advantage in corner kicks on the day 4-1, while fouls were called against the Dolphins by a count of 11-9.
Following Saturday's result, the Dolphins stand at 1-4 overall on the season and 0-1 in league play. The Mount will look to snap its two match losing skid on September 21 when it heads to the College of Staten Island. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
