, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team got into the win column for the second time this season with a 3-1 road win on Tuesday evening at York. The Dolphins took the match by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-9 and 25-16. Sophomore Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) paced the Dolphins with a career-high 10 kills against the Cardinals.
After dropping the first set to the home standing Cardinals, the Mount rebounded in set number two after coming from behind from an 11-9 deficit. Trailing by two points in the second set, Mount Saint Vincent ran off the next six straight points to pull in front 15-11. The run was keyed by three attack errors by York as well as a service ace from
Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) and kills from MacBride and
Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.).
York would close to within a point, at 20-19, in the set, but the Mount would close with five of the final six points to even the match at one set apiece. MacBride and
Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) keyed the run with a kill each.
Mount Saint Vincent dominated the third set and took advantage of seven York attack errors in the set to pull in front 2-1 in the match. The Mount ran out to a 13-1 lead in the set on the strength of four service aces. MacBride and Metzner each recorded two each, while Booker posted three kills over the run.
The Dolphins maintained the momentum gained in the third set and finished off 10 kills in the fourth to secure the win. The Mount hit .231 as a team in the fourth frame and committed just four errors in 26 attacks.
Mount Saint Vincent again got off to a fast start in the fourth and opened a 9-3 advantage in the early going. The Cardinals committed six errors in the stanza and hit -.160 as a team. The Mount would not allow York any closer then four points in the fourth set as it cruised to the victory.
Booker had a strong all-around match for the Dolphins and added an assist, an ace, a dig and a total block to her career-best 10 kills. Metzner continued her strong early season play with eight winners to go along with four digs and a team-high four service aces.
MacBride closed out a strong night with five kills and she also matched the team-high with four aces. She also led all players in the match with 17 assists. Williams chipped in with four kills and was one of two players for the Mount with double-figure digs with 10.
Senior libero
Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the team with 15 digs and stands just 70 shy of 1,500 for her career. She also added three kills and three aces for the Dolphins.
York was paced by Stayce Kay Muirhead who posted a match-high 11 kills to go along with a dig and a pair of total blocks. Pamela Yap handed out 16 assists and lifted eight digs, while Antenieka Burton totaled a team-high 14 digs.
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent recorded 35 kills and hit .147 as a team. The Dolphins also recorded 15 service aces. York held the edge on the night in digs 43-42 and total team blocks 3-2.
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 2-7 overall on the season. The Dolphins will look for their second straight victory on Thursday night when they travel to the College of Staten Island. The non-league match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
