Dolphins Drop Third Straight With Road Loss At Yeshiva

New York, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent junior captain Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a career-high 30 points, but the Dolphins were edged on the road at league rival Yeshiva on Saturday night by a score of 74-67.
 
After being tied four times in the opening six and a half minutes on Saturday, the Dolphins jumped out to their largest lead of the game after a Jon Moore (Cleveland, Ohio) three-pointer put the Mount in front 24-17 with 8:32 left in the first half.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would hold on to the lead until the later stages of the opening stanza when Chen Biron buried a three-pointer to push the Maccabees in front 30-28. Yeshiva would close the half on a 12-0 run over the final 4:21 to carry a 37-28 lead into the intermission.
 
Yeshiva shot 50-percent from the field overall in the opening period and forced 13 Mount Saint Vincent turnovers, leading to 15 points. The Maccabee bench also had a strong first 20 minutes after outscoring the Mount's 12-0.
 
The Dolphins came out of halftime and used a 10-2 run to slice its deficit to one point after another Moore three-pointer. Cunningham scored six of the 10 points for the Mount, who got to within 39-38 with 17:22 left in regulation time.
 
The one point deficit would be as close as the Dolphins would get the remainder of the night and Yeshiva would go on to use a 14-0 spurt over a nearly six minute stretch to take a 15 point advantage with just under 12 minutes left in the contest.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would get the deficit under double-figures with 8:36 left to play after a pair of Cunningham free-throws, but the Maccabees would keep the lead between five and nine points until a Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) lay-in got the Mount to within 71-67 with 19 seconds left.
 
Yeshiva finished the game shooting 43.1-percent from the field and went 19-for-28 from the free-throw line. The big advantage for Yeshiva came off the bench, as Shlomo Weissberg scored 18 points, leading to a 25-4 advantage for the Maccabees in reserve scoring.
 
Biron led Yeshiva with 22 points on 6-for-11 shooting overall and 5-for-10 shooting from behind the arc. Dovie Hoffman added 20 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Omer Haim scored five points for the Maccabees and led all players with eight assists.
 
Cunningham led all scorers in the game with his career-high 30 points after shooting 11-for-22 from the field and 8-for-13 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds, swiped a pair of steals and led the team with two assists.
 
Waite continued his steady play with his third straight double-double after netting 11 points and pulling down a team-high 15 rebounds to go along with five steals. Moore rounded out a trio of Dolphins in double-figures with 18 points.
 
Overall, Mount Saint Vincent shot 35.5-percent from the floor and went 5-for-20 from three-point range. The Dolphins finished the contest shooting 64.3-percent from the free-throw line after going 18-for-28 on the night.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-4 overall on the season and to 0-2 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again at home when they play host to Staten Island on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
