Dolphins Defeated By Hot Shooting Bearcats

Riverdale, N.Y. – Playing in its first home game of the season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was defeated by visiting Baruch by a score of 77-60 on Tuesday night. Senior guard Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) paced the Dolphins in points and rebounds on the night on his way to his fourth career double-double.
 
After getting off to a slow start on Tuesday, the Mount played behind for the entire game. The Dolphins would score just four points over the first eight minutes of action and fell behind by a score of 21-4 after a Nate Young jumper with 12:16 to play in the first half.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would fall behind by as many as 20 after one of five Chris Beauchamp three-pointers in the half and trailed 42-26 heading into the intermission. Waite led the team in scoring after 20 minutes with eight points.
 
The Bearcats finished the first half shooting 51.6-percent overall from the field and made six of their eight three-point field goal attempts. Beauchamp went a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc and went 7-for-8 overall on his way to a 21 point opening stanza.
 
Mount Saint Vincent would come out of the intermission and whittle away at the deficit and used a quick 13-6 spurt to get the Baruch lead under double-figures for the first time since 11-2 in the opening minutes of the contest. A Jon Moore (Cleveland, Ohio) triple got the Mount to within nine points with 15:59 left in regulation.
 
With the Dolphins getting themselves back into the game, the red-hot Beauchamp connected on sixth triple of the game in the ensuing possession to get the Bearcats back in front by 12 points.
 
Following the Beauchamp three, the Mount would climb to within 10 points two more times, but Baruch would methodically build the lead to a game-high 24 points after a Fuat Yapar lay-in with 2:45 left in regulation.
 
The Bearcats improved on their first half shooting coming out of halftime and finished the game shooting better then 53-percent from the floor overall. The team also shot a blistering 8-for-12 from behind the arc, but struggled from the charity stripe, going just 11-for-23. Beauchamp led all scorers with 27 points after going 9-for-11 from the field and 7-for-8 from distance.
 
Mount Saint Vincent finished the night shooting an even 37-percent from the floor, but struggled from behind the arc after going just 3-for-24. Moore, Sean Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Chris Bonaventura (Staten Island, N.Y.) each knocked down a triple in the game.
 
Waite had a solid all-around night for the Mount after going 8-for-12 from the floor on his way to a team-high 16 points. He also led the way with a game-high 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
 
Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was the only other Dolphin in double-figures with 11 points on 5-for-12 shooting. He led the team with three assists and swiped a steal. Cody Gauvard (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) finished with eight points and Kevin Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) came off the bench to lead the team with three steals.
 
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-2 overall on the season heading into the Skyline opener on Thursday. The Dolphins will welcome St. Joseph's-L.I. to the Sharp Center with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
