Mount Saint Vincent Rallies For Key Skyline Victory At Sage

Troy, N.Y. – After falling behind 2-0 on the road at league rival Sage, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team rallied for a key 3-2 victory over the Gators on Friday night. The Dolphins won the conference match by set scores of 14-25, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25 and 15-13. Sophomore Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) paced the Dolphins with 13 kills, while senior Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) lifted a career-high 28 digs.
 
After totaling just nine kills over the first two sets on Friday, the Dolphins rallied to hit .300 as a team in the third set and recorded seven winners to cut their deficit to 2-1. The Mount evened the match with a hard fought win in the fourth set, before stealing the victory in the fifth with six kills against just a pair of errors.
 
Booker continued her strong play in 2011 with 13 kills against just four errors on the night. She has now recorded at least 10 kills in four matches this year and leads the team in the category on the season with 131. Booker also posted a match-high four total blocks for the Dolphins.
 
Metzner was one of four Mount Saint Vincent players to reach double-figures in the digs category on Friday after lifting her 28. She also added five kills and a team-high three service aces to the winning effort.
 
Senior Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) led all players in the match with 33 digs for the Mount. She also added an assist and an ace in the match. Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had a strong night for the Mount, narrowly missing a double-double with nine kills and 18 digs.
 
Junior setter Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) also played a key role in the comeback victory after notching a double-double for Mount Saint Vincent. She led the team with 25 assists in the contest and also lifted 16 digs to go along with one kills.
 
Sage was paced on the night by a match-high 21 kills from reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Helene Putriment. Stacey Forte chipped in with 10 winners to go along with a team-high three total blocks. Joanie Cooney led all players on the night with 43 assists, while Kelsey Wilson lifted a team-high 24 digs.
 
For the night, Mount Saint Vincent finished with 31 kills with Sage posting 50. The Dolphins lifted 109 digs as a team to 77 for Sage and posted five total team blocks to four for the Gators.
 
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 9-15 overall and to 3-5 in the Skyline Conference. With one league match remaining, the Dolphins remain in the hunt for the final spot in the conference tournament. Winners of three of their last four matches, the Dolphins will be back in action again on October 22 when they head to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn for a tri-match starting at 2:00 p.m.
