Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team dropped a home Skyline Conference contest to Purchase on Saturday afternoon by a score of 8-1. Freshman midfielder
Shannon Doyle (Central Islip, N.Y.) netted her third goal of the season for the Mount in the first half.
Purchase got off to a fast start on Saturday when Nathalie Lavelanet lofted a ball over Mount Saint Vincent keeper
Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) just over four minutes into the contest. The Lavelanet tally would be one of three for the Panthers in the first 45 minutes of play.
The visitors would get the eventual game winner in the 22
nd minute when Cat Viscardi finished off a centering pass from Lavelanet at the 21:52 mark of the match. The final goal of the first period for the Panthers would come at the 40:35 mark when Ashley Panepinto scored her first of three goals on the day off a free kick.
Trailing 3-0 late in the first half, Doyle got Mount Saint Vincent on the board with her team leading third goal of the season. Nearly three minutes after the Panepinto tally, Doyle took a free kick from 30 yards out that found the back of the cage to cut the Dolphins' deficit to 3-1.
Purchase came out in the second half and opened the game up with five goals. The final four game over the last 15 minutes of the match with Panepinto scoring twice for the Panthers over that stretch.
On the afternoon, Purchase had six different players with at least two points and had five different goal scorers. Panepinto finished the game with six points, while Viscardi totaled four. Melissa Valencia finished the day with a pair of assists for the Panthers.
Miller finished the day with eight saves for the Dolphins, while
Sophia Cunningham Flushing, N.Y.) came on to make a pair of stops in 33 minutes of action. Kristen Racaniello finished the contest with pair of stops for the Panthers.
Overall Purchase held a commanding advantage in shots on the day at 34-4. The Panthers also took all nine corner kicks in the match, while fouls were called 9-6 against the visitors.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 2-6 overall on the season and to 0-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins will be back in action again on October 8 when they travel to St. Joseph's-L.I. Kick-off with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
