Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer squad was shutout on the road Saturday afternoon at Purchase by a score of 3-0. Senior net minder
Matt Calandrillo (Cold Spring, N.Y.) made six saves in goal, while
Andres Romero (Port Chester, N.Y.) and
Jonathan Guana (Queens, N.Y.) each got off a pair of shots.
The Panthers got the eventual game winning tally in the 25
th minute when Blaise Bourgeois finished off a pass from Robert Acosta on a header inside the box. Bourgeois' first of the season came at the 24:07 mark of the contest.
The Mount's 1-0 deficit would stand until late in the match when the Panthers converted two goals in the final 10 minutes of play. Acosta and Michael Beckett scored two minutes apart at 79:30 and 81:25 to secure the league victory for Purchase.
Acosta finished the day with three points after netting a goal and posting an assist. All three Purchase goal scorers picked up their first tallies of the season.
Calandrillo finished the day with six stops, including four in the second half of play. David Kurzweil picked up the shutout victory after making five saves on the afternoon.
For the match, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 15-8 in the game including 9-5 in shots on goal. Purchase held the edge in corner kicks 2-1 and fouls were called 8-6 against Mount Saint Vincent.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-4 overall on the season and to 0-2 in league contests. The Dolphins will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday night when they travel to NYU-POLY. Kick-off with the Blue Jays is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
