Men’s Basketball Suffers First Setback Of The Season At Farmingdale State

After matching the program's best start with a 10 game winning streak to open the season, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was dealt its first defeat on Tuesday at Farmingdale State by a score of 104-75. Twelve different Dolphins scored in the game, with Joe Ecock (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leading the way with a season-high 15 points.

 

After Farmingdale State scored the first six points of the game, the Dolphins rebounded to take its largest lead of the night after five straight points from George Naldjieff (Miami, Fla.). He first knotted the score at 8-8 with a three point play and then gave the Mount its lone advantage of the night at 10-8 with a jumper with just under 16 minutes left before the intermission.

 

The Rams regained the lead after a 10-0 run following the Naldjieff spurt and would not fall behind again the remainder of the night. After falling behind by 10 points after the Farmingdale State run, the Dolphins would only get as close as nine points the rest of the way. The Rams pulled in front by as many as 24 twice before halftime and carried a 55-33 edge into the locker room.

 

The Rams shot a red-hot 51.2-percent in the opening stanza and went 6-for-11 from behind the arc. Josh Smith and Dyshaun Flournoy led all scorers with 15 points at the break, with Ecock scoring 13 of his team-high 15 points before the half.

 

The Rams would pick right up where they left off in the second half and would not let the Dolphins any closer then 14 points in the final 20 minutes. Farmingdale State gained its largest lead of game the in the final minute when Davon Henry pushed the lead to 34 points.

 

Overall on the night the Rams shot just under 53-percent from the field and made eight threes. The Rams had five players score in double-figures with Smith leading the way with a game-high 21. Christian Nunez led all players with 10 rebounds, as Farmingdale State held a 47-43 edge on the glass.

 

Ecock finished the night 6-for-12 from the floor overall and poured in three of the Mount's nine triples. He also added six rebounds and three steals. Chris Bonaventura (Staten Island, N.Y.) netted a career-high nine points and added two assists and three thefts. Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, N.Y.) was held to nine points and failed to reach double-figures for just the third time this season.

 

Mount Saint Vincent shot a season low 35.2-percent from the field and converted nine of its 38 three-point attempts. The Dolphins did secure 13 offensive rebounds in the game and held 20-8 advantage in second chance points.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 10-1 overall and to 5-1 in league play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Thursday night in another tough road league game when they travel to Purchase. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
