New York, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team dropped its season-high third straight game on Monday night after a crucial 75-65 loss at Skyline rival Yeshiva. Junior Mark Waite (Chicago, Ill.) led a pair of Dolphins in double-figures with a career-high 15 points.
Mount Saint Vincent never led in the game and struggled from the floor all night, shooting just 34.8-percent overall. The Dolphins also struggled from behind the arc on Monday, converting just three of their 18 attempts.
The Mount would fall behind by as many as 14 points in the first half, but rallied for a 10-0 run to get to within four points with seven minutes left before the half. Although struggling from the field, the Dolphins went into the half trailing by just five points.
The Dolphins would stay within striking distance in the second half and got their deficit down to one with just over 13 minutes left in regulation time after a free-throw from Kevin Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.). Yeshiva, though, would answer with a quick 6-0 spurt to extend their lead back to seven points. Mount Saint Vincent would only be able to get within three points the rest of the night.
As cold as the Dolphins were from the floor in the game, the Maccabees were hot. Yeshiva shot better then 55-percent from the field on the night, including better the 56-percent in the second half. Although The Macs only converted one three-pointer in the game, they outscored the Dolphins from the free-throw line by eight.
Waite recorded his team-high third double-double of the season on Monday with his career-best point total and game-high 14 rebounds. He went 6-for-9 from the floor and chipped in with an assist and a steal.
Junior Cody Gauvard (Rockaway, N.Y.) contributed 13 points and a pair of rebounds for the Dolphins and Shaquille Cunningham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the team with three assists and three steals.
Gil Bash led Yeshiva with a game-high 26 points going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free-throw line. The Maccabees also finished the night with 21 assists on 26 makes and were led by seven helpers from Jeremy Pressman.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 12-5 overall on the season and to 7-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will look to return to the win column in a tough road game at Sage on Wednesday. Tip-off with the Gators is slated for 7:00 p.m.
