Throggs Neck, N.Y. – Sophomore Brittany Kehoe (Stony Point, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season in the 80th minute on Monday night to send the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team to a 1-0 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime. The win snaps a three game losing streak for the Dolphins and is their first league win of the season.
The game was tightly contested throughout with shots hard to come by on Monday night. The two teams played a scoreless first half with a combined four shots taken in the period. At the break Mount Saint Vincent held a 3-1 edge in the category.
The two teams would carry on the tight play well into the second half until Kehoe was able to break the scoreless tie and send the Dolphins to the victory. She broke away inside the box and was able to beat Maritime keeper Andria Thornton low to the right side for her first career game winning goal at 79:15.
Mount Saint Vincent keeper Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) would make the one goal advantage stick on Monday as she recorded her first career shutout between the pipes. She made three saves in the tilt to preserve the victory. Thornton ended the night with seven saves in goal for the Privateers.
For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in shots 12-5 and in corner kicks 6-4. A relatively clean game that saw eight of the 11 fouls called against Maritime. The Dolphins were whistled for offsides in the game on nine occasions.
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 2-6 overall on the season and to 1-3 in league action. The Dolphins will look to make it two straight victories on Wednesday night when they play host to Mount Saint Mary. Kick-off with the Knights is slated for 7:30 at Tibbetts Brook Park.
