Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Soccer team dropped its third straight contest on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss at league rival Purchase. Junior Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) tallied her first career goal for the Dolphins and Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) made six saves in goal.
Purchase would open the scoring early in the tilt when Abigail Katz scored off a corner kick from Marisa Corson at the 5:14 mark of the match. The Panthers would hold the 1-0 lead until O'Shea equaled the score at 1-1 when she buried a rebound off a corner kick at 27:49.
The game would remain tied at one goal apiece for just over three minutes when Ashley Panepinto scored the eventual game winner from 15 yards out in the 31st minute, sending Purchase into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The Dolphins would open the second half with several good chances, but would not be able to get another goal past Purchase keeper Kristen Racaniello, who made three stops in the contest. The Panthers would go on to add an insurance marker in the 72nd minute when Katz took a through ball from Veronica Slattery and beat McNish for her second goal of the afternoon.
For the match, Purchase held the edge in shots 17-8, including a 12-4 advantage in the first half. Corner kicks went 6-2 in favor of the Panthers and fouls in the contest went 8-6 against Mount Saint Vincent.
The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-6 overall on the season and to 0-3 against Skyline Conference opponents. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Monday night when they travel to league rival Maritime. The road tilt is set to kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
