Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team won its third straight match and evened its record on the season with a 3-0 sweep of John Jay in its 2010 home opener Thursday night. The Dolphins won the match by set scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-17. Junior Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the Dolphins on the night with eight kills.
The Dolphins battled hard to pick up the win on Thursday night and came from 17-12 down in the third set to earn the victory. Senior Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) kept the serve during that run for the Dolphins and collected four service aces.
Williams added five digs and an ace to her eight winners on the night. Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) and Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) each posted five kills in the match, with Nepomuceno posting five digs and Booker picking up three.
Junior Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) led all players on the night with 19 digs and Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added three kills and five digs to the winning effort. Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) finished off the night with a team-high 12 assists.
John Jay was paced by Justyna Kopec who posted seven kills and 11 digs. Renauta Sailsman posted 13 digs for the Bloodhounds and Crystal Reyes finished with a match-high 13 assists.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent posted 28 kills to 19 for John Jay and lifted 54 digs to 52 for the Bloodhounds. The Dolphins also held the edge in service aces on the night 9-7.
The win improves the Dolphins to 4-4 overall in 2010. The Mount will continue a busy week on Friday when they host Skyline rival Sage. The match at the Peter Jay Sharp Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
