straight match on Wednesday night when it fell at Skyline Conference Preseason Favorite NYU-POLY 3-0. The Fighting Blue Jays toppled the Dolphins by set scores of 9-25, 14-25 and 10-25. Junior Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) posted double-figure digs for the third straight time and Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded 10 assists.

 

NYU-POLY got out to a fast start in the first set on Wednesday, hitting .565 and committing just two attack errors in the opening stanza. For the match the Blue Jays finished with an impressive .367 team hitting percentage.

 

Meredith Shipman led the offense charge for the Blue Jays with eight kills and a .429 hitting percentage. She also lifted 11 digs and posted three total blocks. Melissa Pona and Victoria Kalvert each recorded seven kills and Nicole Breibart finished with a match-high 16 assists.  

 

For the Dolphins, junior middle blocker Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) finished with a team-high three kills. Kristine DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Reynes each chipped in with a pair of winners for the Dolphins in the match. Rookie Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) finished the night with two solo blocks for the Mount.

 

Overall, NYU-POLY finished with 31 kills to 12 for Mount Saint Vincent and picked up 46 digs to just 16 for the Dolphins. The Blue Jays also posted eight total team blocks in the match.  

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-2 overall on the season and to an even 1-1 in league play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the United States Coast Guard Academy for a tri-match including USMMA-Kings Point. The Dolphins will tussle with the Mariners at 11:00 a.m. before taking on host Coast Guard at 3:00 p.m.
