Dolphins Upend Maccabees In Season Opener

season with a 3-1 Skyline Conference victory over Yeshiva on Tuesday night. The Dolphins took the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-9, 23-25 and 25-21. Mount Saint Vincent recorded 18 service aces in the tilt, with sophomore Kristine DeMasi (Bay Ridge, N.Y.) leading the way with six.

 

The Dolphins were led on the night by Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y.) and Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) who each tied with a team-high five kills. Nepomuceno also chipped in with eight defensive digs and a pair of assists.

 

DeMasi had a strong all-around match for Mount Saint Vincent in the season opener after registering a pair of kills on the night. Her six aces were a match-high and she was one of three Dolphins to post double figures in digs with 11. Sophomore Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) finished the night with 19 assists, six digs and five aces for the Dolphins.

 

Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way for the Mount on the defensive side with a match-high 27 digs to go along with three kills and newcomer Kaitlyn Gaynor (Island Park, N.Y.) lifted 13 digs and posted two kills.

 

Yeshiva was paced on the night by Dena Shayne who posted eight kills, four digs and a pair of aces. Moriah Green finished the night with 19 assists and Littal Kravetz totaled a pair of total blocks.

 

For the match, Mount Saint Vincent registered 29 kills and 18 service aces, while Yeshiva posted 21 winners and four aces. The Dolphins held a large advantage in digs on the night, lifting 81 to The Macs 13. Yeshiva out blocked Mount Saint Vincent in the match 4-2.

 

The win puts Mount Saint Vincent at 1-0 overall on the season and at 1-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to William Paterson for a non-conference match-up. The contest is schedule to get underway at 12:00 p.m.
