opener on Saturday afternoon to Staten Island by a score of 4-0. Staten Island scored a pair of goals early in each half to propel itself to the shutout win.

 

The visiting Dolphins opened the scoring at the 8:16 mark of the match when Demi-Jean Martorano scored her first of two goals on the day after a turnover just outside the box. That was followed just over three minutes later when Lauren Neglia tallied off a corner kick at 11:41.

 

After Mount Saint Vincent settled in the remainder of the half, Staten Island struck two more times inside the first 10 minutes of the second half to open the game up. Martorano tallied her second goal of the match at 50:14 and Paige Buono scored on a partial breakaway to close out the scoring at the 52:07 mark.

 

Neglia finished the day with a goal and an assist for Staten Island and Christina Sgarlato added a helper as four different Staten Island players recorded a point in the contest.

 

Four Mount Saint Vincent players finished with two shots apiece, as the Dolphins posted their highest shot total of the season with nine. Junior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) finished the day with three saves between the pipes for the Mount.

 

Overall in the game, Staten Island held the advantage in shots 11-9, with the Mount outshooting the visitors 6-5 in the second half. Staten Island held the edge in corners 8-4 on the afternoon and fouls were whistled 12-7 against the visitors.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-3 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to action on Tuesday, September 14 when they host the City College of New York. Kick-off with the Beavers at Purchase is slated for 4:00 p.m.
