Dolphins Drop Season Opener At Rutgers-Newark

2010 season at Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday evening by a score of 8-0. Junior goalie Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) made 17 saves between the pipes for the Dolphins in her collegiate debut.

 

The Scarlet Raiders got on the board with the eventual game winner on Wednesday when Alex Nata tallied at the 7:26 mark of the match. Rutgers-Newark would add three more markers to open the game up before halftime, with Vanessa Rivera scoring all three goals including two inside of 40 seconds in the 34th minute.

 

For the game the Scarlet Raiders outshot Mount Saint Vincent 48-1 and also held the advantage in corner kicks 11-1. Five different players found the back of the net for Rutgers-Newark with Rivera finishing with seven points.

 

McNish had to face 25 shots on goal in the tilt and finished with an impressive 17 stops in her first career game. Sophomore Katherine Postel (Middle Village, N.Y.) recorded the lone shot for the Dolphins on the night.

 

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 0-1 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to action again on Tuesday, September 7 when they travel to NJCU. Kick-off with the Gothic Knights is slated for 4:00 p.m.
