Romero (Port Chester, N.Y.) added two assists as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Soccer team picked up an impressive 5-0 victory over Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night. It marked the Mount's initial win of the 2010 campaign.

 

Junior Hugo Hernandez (West Harrison, N.Y.) got the Mount on the board at the 19:48 mark of the contest on a penalty kick for his first marker of the season. His goal was the first in a string of three in a span of just under three minutes, as Downey and Jordan Vera (Greenwich, Conn.) also scored over that stretch.

 

Junior Carvajal (Port Chester, N.Y.) closed out the scoring in the first half when he chipped the ball over the Sarah Lawrence keeper from just inside the box in the 37th minute to send Mount Saint Vincent to a commanding 4-0 lead at the intermission.

 

The Dolphins would add a final maker in the 64th minute against Sarah Lawrence when Downey converted the Dolphins' second penalty shot of the evening. The five goal outburst was the most goals in a game for Mount Saint Vincent since it netted six against Webb Institute on September 19, 2007.

 

All four goal scorers in the game for the Mount posted their first marker of the season, with Hernandez, Vera and Carjaval all picking up their first career goals in a Mount Saint Vincent uniform.

 

Javier Mandujano (Norwalk, Conn.) earned the win in goal for the Dolphins without having to make a save. His counterpart from Sarah Lawrence, Codey Foster, made nine stops in the tilt.

 

Overall in the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in shots 16-2 and it took the only five corner kicks in the contest. Fouls in the contest were whistled 15-6 against Sarah Lawrence.

 

The win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 1-1-1 overall on the season heading into Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will open the league slate on September 23 when they travel to Old Westbury. Kick-off with the Panthers is slated for 4:00 p.m.
