BRONXVILLE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team advanced to the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Championship match with a 3-0 win over Sarah Lawrence in the semifinals, but fell to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 3-0 in the title match. The Dolphins topped Sarah Lawrence 30-20, 30-11, 30-17, but fell to the Lady Bears by scores of 12-30, 16-30, and 20-30. Senior
Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) combined for 19 kills over the two matches to lead Mount Saint Vincent.
In the semifinal match against Sarah Lawrence, senior Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) led the Dolphins with 10 kills. Flaherty followed with nine winners and fellow senior Katie Balch (Peekskill, NY) contributed seven to the winning effort. Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) chipped in with five kills each.
Leonard led the team with 21 assists in the match to go along with a service ace and six defensive digs. Freshman Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) finished with six assists, two aces and seven digs.
Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) led the Mount with 16 digs in the match and also posted three service aces. Flaherty added nine digs, while Martinez, Pierre, and Esmeralda Morales (Bronx, NY) chipped in with two total blocks each.
Against St. Joseph's, Flaherty was the team leader in kills with 10. She also contributed three assists, a service ace and six digs in the championship. Martinez finished with three winners, while Balch finished with four.
Leonard was again the leader in assists with 13. She also finished with a pair of kills and a dig. Nepomuceno posted a service ace and nine digs in the match.
O'Shea again led the way in digs with 15 against the Lady Bears, giving her 31 over the two matches. Martinez posted two more blocks in the contest, giving her 62 on the season.
In finishing second in the HVWAC Tournament, the Dolphins closed out the season with a 16-16 overall record.
