FARMINGDALE, NY – In its first ever Skyline Conference Tournament contest, the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team suffered at 3-1 defeat at the hands of Farmingdale State on Wednesday night. Senior
Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) led the Dolphins with a double-double, posting 13 kills and 10 defensive digs.
Flaherty was one of three Mount Saint Vincent players to record double-figure kills on Wednesday night. Katie Balch (Peekskill, NY) and Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) were the other two, posting 11 and 10 winners respectively. Freshman Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) contributed nine winners on the night for the Dolphins.
Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) recorded 26 assists in the match to go along with three service aces and six digs. Freshman Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) also posted double-figure assists with 10. She was also one of three players with double-figure digs with 19 and had a team high four service aces.
Joining Nepomuceno with 10-plus digs were Flaherty with 10 and Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) who posted a match high 27. Martinez also tied for a match high with five total blocks on Wednesday.
Farmingdale State was led by Cathryn McLean, who finished with 20 kills on the night. Amanda Sperling added 13 winners for the Rams and 14 digs. Colleen Mackey led the Rams with 32 assists, while Amanda Sieber posted 15 digs. With the win the Rams improved to 20-15 on the season and advanced to the Skyline Semifinals on Saturday.
At 14-15 overall on the season, the Dolphins will go back to work on Friday when they host Cooper Union in the quarterfinals of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Tournament. The match is set to being at 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium on the campus of Mount Saint Vincent.
