Mount Saint Vincent tops Purchase, Brooklyn College at Cougar Classic

Pierre totals 18 kills in two matches

UNION, NJ – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team swept a pair of matches at the Cougar Classic hosted by Kean University on Saturday. The Dolphins downed Purchase 30-17, 30-16, and 30-24 and then Brooklyn College 30-20, 30-19, and 30-21. Freshman Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) finished the day with 18 kills over the two matches.

Pierre finished with 13 kills against Purchase to go along with a solo block. She followed only Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) in kills in the match, as Flaherty led the team with 15 winners. Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) also had a solid match, finishing with six kills.

Leonard led the team in assists with 20 in the match, while freshman Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) followed with eight helpers. Leonard also added three service aces and Nepomuceno contributed nine defensive digs.

Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) finished with 12 digs against Purchase to lead the team, while Tara Mead (Pearl River, NY) contributed seven to the winning effort.

Against Brooklyn College, Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) had a team high 13 kills, while Pierre finished off the match with five winners. Pierre also added a solo block in the contest.

Leonard contributed 15 assists and three service aces in the win and Nepomuceno added five assists and finished with 10 defensive digs. O'Shea again led the way in digs with 15, while Mead finished off a solid afternoon with nine.

The sweep on Saturday gets the Dolphins back to the .500 mark at 12-12. They will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they host Skyline rival Mount Saint Mary. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
