Purchase, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team had its three match
winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 loss at league rival Purchase. The Dolphins were downed in the tightly contested contest by set scores of 24-26, 24-26, 25-20 and 27-29.
Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) led the Mount Saint Vincent attack with 10 kills in the match.
Williams reached double-figure kills for the second time this season and her 10 winners were just one shy of her season-high of 11 which was recorded on September 17 against Lehman. Williams also chipped in with three service aces, eight defensive digs and a pair of solo blocks.
Senior Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) also had a strong match for the Dolphins, posting a double-double with 29 assists and 12 digs. Leonard also finished with a match-high six service aces and recorded her second career total block. Tuesday's double-double marks the sixth of the season for Leonard.
Sophomore Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) matched her career-high in two categories on Tuesday night against the Panthers. She reached four kills in a match for the fourth time in her career and also listed 11 digs to match the most in her career in a single match. Metzner also finished the contest with three service aces.
Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) contributed nine kills in the match to go along with 10 digs and an ace. O'Shea was one of four players to record at least 10 digs in the contest with sophomore Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) leading the way with 29. Three Dolphins also posted a pair of solo blocks with Gabriella Burgos (Bronx, N.Y.) and Esmeralda Morales (Bronx, N.Y.) joining Williams.
Overall in the contest, Mount Saint Vincent posted 32 kills to 31 for Purchase and also lifted 86 digs. The Dolphins also finished with a season-high 7.5 total team blocks.
The loss evens Mount Saint Vincent's overall record at 10-10 and its Skyline Conference mark at 3-3. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Wednesday night when they host St. Joseph's-Brooklyn. The four seniors on the 2009 team will be honored prior to the match and a representative from Rock And Roll For A Cure, Inc. will be on hand as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The non-conference match is slated for 8:30 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
