Dolphins defeat St. Joseph’s-Long Island, fall to Farmingdale

Flaherty collects 19 kills over two matches

PATCHOGUE, NY – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad split a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Saturday at St. Joseph's-Long Island. The Dolphins topped the host Golden Eagles by scores of 20-30, 30-28, 30-28, and 30-16, but fell to Farmingdale State by scores of 30-26, 17-30, 16-30, and 22-30. Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY) was one of five Dolphins to finish the day with at least 10 kills, posting a team high 19 over the two contests.

Against Farmingdale, Flaherty finished with a team high 10 kills to go along with an assist, two service aces, and four defensive digs. Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY) also played a solid match, finishing with 20 assists, as well as five service aces and three kills.

On the defensive side, senior middle blocker Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY) finished with three solo blocks, while Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) and Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) finished with 11 and 21 digs, respectively.

In the Dolphins 3-1 win over St. Joseph's, Martinez led a balanced offensive attack that saw the Mount have six players contribute at least five kills. Martinez led the way with 10 and was followed up by Flaherty and Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) with nine winners each. Pierre added four total blocks to the winning effort. 

Leonard finished another strong match by posting five kills and 25 assists. Nepomuceno posted five assists in the match and was one of three Dolphins with double-figure digs with 13. O'Shea posted a team high 19 digs, while Katie Balch (Peekskill, NY) finished up with 11.

With the split, the Dolphins moved to 10-9 overall on the season and 3-3 in Skyline Conference play. Mount Saint Vincent will be back in action again on Tuesday night when it travels to Baruch. The match is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
