Women’s Volleyball Evens Record With Wins Over Farmingdale St. And Bard

losing streak with Skyline Conference wins over Farmingdale St. and Bard. The Dolphins won both matches by scores of 3-1, downing the Rams by set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 12-25 and 25-20 before defeating the Raptors by scores of 25-23, 25-14, 24-26 and 25-19.

In the Farmingdale St. win Mount Saint Vincent had 11 players record at least one kill with sophomore Jessica Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) leading the way with nine. Williams also chipped in with a pair of assists, three service aces and 10 digs for the Mount.

Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, N.Y) and Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) each finished the contest with five winners, while Maureen Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) and Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) both posted four kills. Leonard also led the team with five service aces to go along with 14 digs and 23 assists.

Overall in the match, the Mount had four players record at least 10 digs, including Williams and Leonard. Nepoumceno also added 10 digs for the Dolphins and sophomore Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) lifted a match-high 35 digs.

The Dolphins continued with a balanced attack in the contest with the Raptors which pushed the Mount's league record over .500 for the first time this season. O'Shea recorded double-figures in kills for the third time this season with a team-high 11 winners. O'Shea just missed a double-double against Bard, finishing with nine digs.

Williams rounded out a strong all-around day with nine more kills against Bard to go along with seven defensive digs and a block assist. Nepomuceno added eight kills in the match for the Dolphins, while Marni O'Shea (White Plains, N.Y.) reached a new career-high with seven winners.

Leonard chipped in with a pair of kills in the Bard match and also recorded seven service aces and eight defensive digs. The senior setter also matched her career-high by handing out 32 assists against the Raptors.

The Dolphins finished the match with a .118 hitting percentage and lifted 86 digs as a team, led by 30 from Reynes. Over the two matches, Reynes totaled 65 digs and averaged 8.12 digs per set on the day.

With the sweep on Saturday Mount Saint Vincent evens its overall record on the season at 9-9 and pushes its Skyline mark to 3-2. The Dolphins will return to action at home on Wednesday when they host Medgar Evers. The non-conference match is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
