a pair of Skyline Conference matches on Sunday afternoon at Bard College. The Dolphins were defeated by the host Raptors 3-2 and also by Polytechnic 3-0. Scores of the Bard match were 27-25, 28-30, 25-22, 22-25 and 10-15 against the Mount, while the Polytechnic match went 19-25, 17-25 and 22-25 also against the Dolphins. Sophomore
Christina Pierre (Bronx, NY) had a strong day for the Mount, finishing the two matches with 26 kills.
Pierre led the team against Bard with 18 winners for the Mount. She hit .227 in the five set match and also collected three total blocks. She was one of three players to record double-figure kills against the Raptors, as Lisa O'Shea (White Plains, NY) and Jessica Williams (Cornwall, NY) each picked up 11 in the contest. Williams also finished with four service aces to lead the team.
Freshman Renee Reynes (Bronx, NY) finished the match with a team-high 35 defensive digs, while Krystal Miranda (Putnam Valley, NY) posted 41 assists and a pair of service aces for the Dolphins.
Overall in the contest, Mount Saint Vincent finished with 44 kills and a .122 hitting percentage. The Dolphins posted 10 service aces, 67 digs and six total team blocks.
Against Polytechnic, Mount Saint Vincent was led by Williams who continued her solid rookie campaign with nine kills. She also chipped in with a service ace and two digs. Pierre collected eight more kills and Irma Nepomuceno (Bronx, NY) finished with four winners.
Reynes again led the way in digs with 21 and she also contributed an assist and five service aces. Miranda finished the contest with 21 helpers for the Dolphins.
Overall, the Mount finished with 26 kills and a .211 hitting percentage. The team collected eight service aces and posted 39 defensive digs.
The losses on Sunday drop Mount Saint Vincent to 10-8 overall on the season and to 3-5 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on October 28 when they travel to Mount Saint Mary for their final league match of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
