Riverdale, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team got back to the .500 mark
overall on the season with a hard fought 3-0 win over Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday night. The Dolphins took the match by set scores of 25-8, 25-23 and 28-26. A trio of Dolphins reached career-highs in the match, including
Caryl Garcia (Yonkers, N.Y.) who recorded 23 digs.
After dominating the first set, the Dolphins were battled hard by the visiting Gryphons over the next two frames. The Dolphins trailed by six twice in the second set, before rallying to score 10 of the final 11 points to pick up the win. The Mount tallied 11 kills in the set and hit .129. In the third set the Mount trailed 26-25, before scoring the final three points to earn the sweep.
Garcia was the only Mount Saint Vincent player in double figures in digs with her 23. She also added two kills, two assists and a service ace in the winning effort. Freshman Erin MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) had her second straight career match, notching career-highs in kills with six and assists with 21. She also chipped in three aces and five digs.
Freshman Kristine DeMasi (Bay Ridge, N.Y.) also posted a career-high in kills with eight. She was the team leader in kills for the Mount on Tuesday and also finished with five aces, two assists and four digs.
Sarah Lawrence was led by Kyana Moghadam who finished with seven kills and 13 digs. Olivia Vache posted a team-high 15 digs for the Gryphons and Brooklyn Moore handed out 15 assists.
Overall in the match, Mount Saint Vincent posted 36 kills to 21 for Sarah Lawrence and took advantage of 17 service aces in the contest. The Mount hit .152 in the match and finished with 49 digs to 48 for the Gryphons.
The win improves Mount Saint Vincent to 7-7 overall on the season. The Dolphins will return to action at home again on Thursday night when they host William Paterson. The non-conference match at Hayes Gymnasium is slated for 7:00 p.m.
