Women’s Volleyball advances to HVWAC Semifinals with 3-0 win over New Rochelle

Predergast: 10 kills, nine digs; Lopez: 19 assists; Dolphins to face Sarah Lawrence - Staten Island winner

(Riverdale, NY) – Junior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS) had match highs in both kills (10) and digs (9), and Monique Lopez (Bronx, NY/Aquinas HS) added a match-high 19 assists on her Senior Night as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team swept the College of New Rochelle, 3-0, during the quarterfinal round of the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament at Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, the Mount advances to the HVWAC Final Four, and will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Sarah Lawrence and the College of Staten Island tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Sarah Lawrence. Should the top-seeded Dolphins win that match, they will compete in the HVWAC Finals at 1:00 p.m.

Mount Saint Vincent (13-18, 9-0 HVWAC) stormed through the first two games, 30-21 and 30-14 before a pesky New Rochelle squad battled throughout the third game with the Dolphins prevailing, 30-28.

The night was an emotional one for Mount seniors Jacqui Dauphinais (North Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth Regional HS) and Lopez as they were honored prior to the final home match of their careers. Senior Night proved to be successful in a large part thanks to the duo. Dauphinais had five kills and seven digs, while Lopez was responsible for an incredible night as she added seven aces to her 19 assists.

Also for the Mount, Predergast had another fine match as she is now only 15 kills away from 250 for the 2005 season. She also surpassed the 200 dig mark during another fine performance. Fellow outside hitter Katie Balch (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie HS), added nine kills against only four errors. For the match, the Dolphins dished out 19 service aces against only eight service errors for one of their finest serving nights of the season.

Mount Saint Vincent – who won five consecutive HVWAC Tournament Championships prior to the 2004 season – will seek a return to the Championship match tomorrow against one of two teams the Dolphins swept during the 2005 season. The Mount swept Staten Island on Sept. 8, and did the same to Sarah Lawrence on Oct. 6.
