Women’s Volleyball splits doubleheader with Old Westbury, Pratt

Predergast: 11 kills, 10 digs against Old Westbury; Dolphins down Pratt to break 2004 win total

(Riverdale, NY) – Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS) had a team-high 11 kills and 10 digs, and setters Monique Lopez (Bronx, NY/Aquinas HS) and Nicole Vita (Bordentown, NJ/John P. Stevens) combined for 14 assists, but the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team fell to Skyline Conference power, Old Westbury, 3-0 in a match played at Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. Old Westbury swept the match, 30-16, 30-28, and 30-21 to improve to 17-5 overall and 3-3 in the Skyline Conference. Mount Saint Vincent is now 1-5 in Skyline Conference play.

Predergast provided one of a few highlight performances during what proved to be a tough match for the Dolphins. The junior, who has been named to the Skyline Conference honor roll for four consecutive weeks, provided Mount Saint Vincent with 11 of its 23 total kills. She was also one of only two Dolphins to amass a double-digit dig total as junior Jessica Thorn (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck HS) also had 10 digs.

Statistically, the effort was a tremendous improvement from a 3-1 loss to St. Joseph's (LI) on Thursday night as the Mount made only 16 attacking errors and five service errors after racking up 16 service errors against St. Joseph's. However, Old Westbury's size advantage proved to be the difference as the Panthers enjoyed a tremendous day at the net with Mount Saint Vincent registering only nine total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/Aquinas HS) had one of her finest matches of the season as she had three kills and five total blocks.

The second scheduled match of the day never took place as the Pratt Institute forfeited their match against Mount Saint Vincent. With the win, the Mount improves to 6-0 in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) play with two conference matches to go. The win also improved the Mount to 10-15 overall, breaking last season's win total.

Mount Saint Vincent will have a busy week this week when they travel for their final four away matches of the regular season. The road swing begins on Tuesday, Oct. 18 when the Dolphins travel to CUNY power, Hunter, for a 7:30 p.m. match.
