(King's Point, NY) - Despite one of their finest efforts of the 2005 season, the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team fell to Skyline Conference powerhouse, USMMA-King's Point on Monday, losing 3-1. The Dolphins dropped the first two games, 19-30 and 24-30, before winning the third game, 30-25. USMMA won the fourth game, 30-20, to take the match.
While the result was disappointing the effort certainly was not as the Mount (4-8, 0-1 Skyline Conference) had one of their best defensive performances of the season as they combined for 21 total blocks and 49 digs. Also, junior Roxanne Predergast (Center Moriches, NY/Westhampton Beach HS) continued to develop as one of the top outside hitters in the Skyline Conference as she had a huge night with 10 kills, 13 digs, and a .192 attack percentage. Mount Saint Vincent was also led by sophomore Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine HS) who had five kills and an amazing 10 blocks, while fellow sophomore Meghan Flaherty (Yonkers, NY/Yonkers HS) had 11 total blocks. Dolphin senior Jacqui Dauphinais (North Yarmouth, MA/Dennis Yarmouth Regional HS) had another solid match with six kills, four aces, and 15 digs.
Mount Saint Vincent has now lost three consecutive matches, but will look to get back to their winning ways when they return home on Wednesday, Sept. 26 for a 7:00 home match against HVWAC rival, the College of New Rochelle.
