Women’s Volleyball sweeps Maritime for first Skyline Conference win of ‘06

Seven different Dolphins record kills as Dolphins win second straight match and improve to 3-2

(Riverdale, NY) – Freshman Michelle Dedvukaj (Bronx, NY, St. Catherine) recorded a match-high six kills and seven digs, and fellow freshman Bridget Leonard (Poughkeepsie, NY/Lourdes) added eight assists and eight service aces as the Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball team breezed past Maritime College, 3-0 on Wednesday night to capture their first Skyline Conference win of the 2006 season. With the win, the Dolphins improve to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Conference play.

The match was dominated by the visiting Dolphins from the start as the Mount took the opening game, 30-17 before winning the next two games, 30-14 and 30-18, respectively. It was a balanced effort as seven different Dolphins recorded kills, including juniors Edeana Martinez (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine) and Katie Balch (Peekskill, NY/Peekskill HS), who each recorded five kills. Senior Jessica Thorn (Farmingdale, NJ/Colt's Neck HS) also had a big night with a match-high nine assists, three kills, and a .500 attack percentage.

Overall, the Mount hit .288 and had 21 service aces.

Mount Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday night when they travel to St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) for a rematch of last season's Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Tournament Championship Match. On the line for the Mount is not only a potential run at the 2006 HVWAC Regular Season Championship, but their 11-match winning streak within the Conference as well.
